Yes. Searching is free, there is no account to create and no ads. Some of the sites a result links to (newspaper archives, for example) may ask for their own subscription to read older notices.
How do I find an obituary for a specific person?
Enter the full name and, if the name is common, the city or state where the person lived or died. Try a nickname or a maiden name if the first search finds nothing, and check the spelling of the surname.
How soon after a death does an obituary appear online?
Usually within 2 to 7 days. The funeral home typically posts first, the newspaper follows, and memorial sites such as Legacy and Find a Grave pick it up after that. If a death was in the last day or two, search again in a few days.
Which sites does ObitLookup search?
Legacy.com, Find a Grave, Dignity Memorial, Tribute Archive, Echovita, Ever Loved and other memorial platforms, plus funeral home websites and local newspapers across the open web. Results from the dedicated obituary sites are listed first.
Can I find old obituaries from decades ago?
Sometimes. Newspaper archives such as Newspapers.com and GenealogyBank hold scans going back to the 1700s, and results from them show up here when the notice has an indexed page. Older notices are more likely to need an archive subscription to read in full.
Does ObitLookup store or publish obituaries?
No. Every result is a link to the site that published the notice. We do not copy, host or edit obituaries, and we cannot change or remove one; contact the publishing site for that.
